Maurice Duruflé was not a particularly prolific composer and he died quite young at about the age of forty. However, what he wrote have become classics and his music much admired. This is no less true than for the glorious Requiem, written in 1941. It is often compared to the Requiem by Fauré. They are both reflective and lack some of the high drama of the works by the like of Verdi and Mozart, but, otherwise, they are quite different. Fauré's may well be more popular but the Duruflé is also considered widely as a masterpiece of French grace and beauty. ACS will be performing this work on 28th March directed by Philip Stopford and with an organ accompaniment played by Colin Spinks.

Then, in the second half of the concert, there will be a selection of similarly reflective sacred works appropriate to the season of the year including Allegri's famous Miserere, Tallis's Salavtor Mundi and the more modern works of Dan Forrest (And can it be), Bob Chilott (God so loved the world) and Philip Stopford (O Sacrum Convivium), Do come along and enjoy the serenity and gorgeousness of these and other works.
